Transparency in the processing of eggs

In Austria, cage system housing of laying hens as it used to be is forbidden, but processed eggs are still being used in the production of desserts, pasta and many other goods. These eggs are often completely undeclared and it is therefore possible, that they come from abroad caged egg production.

The consumer is left unknowing as there is no labelling requirement. A new quality label could be the solution here, as it would allow EU-independent goods to be declared in Austria.

On top of that, no declaration concerning the origin and the conditions of processed eggs used for dishes is necessary for the gastronomy. 

By signing and sending this petition to the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Economy, together we show that we demand a quick implementation of declarations or at least an animal protection quality label.

To whom it may concern,

We are pleased about the implemented labelling of eggs done together with animal welfare associations.

However, what is missing and is of utter importance to us citizens and consumers is the declaration of processed eggs. We want to know what’s in the products we buy. 

We do not want to have eggs from animal abusive husbandry systems in products.

Moreover, we also want to know from which type of husbandries eggs used by and in the gastronomy are from.

We demand a quick implementation of said declaration or at least the introduction of an animal protection quality label for products that contain eggs.
